A San Diego motorcyclist suffered a compound fracture to his leg and also lost part of his foot when a car collided with his motorcycle at an intersection. Though alcohol did not appear to be a factor, the motorcycle accident was serious enough in that lanes of traffic were temporarily closed due to the accident.

Especially in San Diego where the weather is ideal for motorcycle riding, such accidents deserve a great deal more attention as many such crashes go unnoticed. Unlike in most other states, motorcycles will be on the road or on California highways throughout most of the year.

Sadly, many motorcycle riders are even less lucky than this individual. Other drivers simply do not pay attention to motorcycles on the road until an accident has actually occurred. Drivers fail to yield to motorcycles or simply assume that a motorcycle is not present because they rely on their mirrors instead of checking out every blind spot before changing lanes.

Motorcycle riders are particularly vulnerable to such crashes because distracted drivers are only paying attention to what's obviously right in front of them. Such accidents could easily have been avoided if a party was simply paying attention.

No matter how careful a motorcycle rider may happen to be, there is little that the rider can do to protect himself from other riders on the road. Being involved in a motorcycle accident can lead to long term injuries, lost wages, medical treatment and expense and physical disability. Holding those accountable can at least allow for some compensation for these types of losses.
