San Diego authorities are still searching for a man thought to be responsible for a 2009 hit-and-run fatal car accident. The victim from Tijuana was 64-years old and had pulled over to the shoulder of State Route 94.
The suspect then struck and fatally injured the victim who had exited his car to clean off his windshield. According to witness accounts, the suspect got out of his car, walked over to where the victim was lying, and then ran off while abandoning his (the suspect's) damaged vehicle. The victim died a short time later while another individual seated in the victim's car was slightly injured.
Hit-and-run accidents cause unnecessary complications for injured parties and their families in many ways. The deceased may have been a caregiver. Other individuals may have been dependent upon this person for their financial and emotional well being.
Locating the individual responsible is also not going to be easy. In the above incident, it appears that the suspect in the crash no long lives in the country. And even if party can be located and found responsible for the accident, the driver might be uninsured and otherwise not have enough finances or assets to reimburse an injured or deceased party and their family.
The family of a deceased relative killed in a hit-and-run accident should be allowed to take advantage of every legal option. Attorneys practiced in the area of personal injury will likely need to be consulted in order to make sure every avenue is explored so that the victim's family can be compensated for what has occurred.
No amount of money can ever make up for the loss of a loved one, but compensation can at least someone compensate the family members for any financial burdens placed upon them because of their loss.
